Distillery Information

Although Glenfiddich Distillery was founded in 1886 by William Grant, their stills first produced spirit on Christmas Day 1887. The distillery is situated In Dufftown beside the river Fiddich, its name translates from Gaelic to 'the valley of the deer'. The Grant family were visionary in their approach to running their company, in the 1920’s during prohibition in America, they increased production while other distilleries slowed down. In the 1950’s they improved infrastructure on site by introducing their own cooperage, which still exists today. They also had their own coppersmiths in order to maintain their stills. By 1956 they introduced the now iconic three-sided bottle, then later were the first to introduce tubes and tins for their bottles. The Grant family’s foresight in marketing their product over the years has now made Glenfiddich the most exported whisky in the world.
