Distillery Information

Macallan Distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, a teacher and a barley farmer. He leased eight acres from the Earl of Seafield, that would allow him to establish his company, Alexander Reid & Co. The whisky produced at this time was named The Craigellachie, named after the nearest village. He died in 1847 and it was subsequently taken over by his son, who would run the distillery until his own death in 1858. The Distillery then changed hands many times over the years, Roderick Kemp bought the distillery in 1892, renaming it R.Kemp Macallan-Glenlivet which everyone knows as The Macallan today. In 2018 Macallan opened the doors of it's new, more eviromentally sustainable distillery, with a bold innovative design that would still allow it to blend in sympathically with its surroundings. Highly regarded amongst whisky enthusiasts worldwide for its quality, rare bottles from this distillery frequently set new auction records, making this one of the most famous malt whisky distilleries in the World.
